NOTES: North of Gunnison and east of Almont, the Taylor River offers exciting flyfishing opportunities. The Taylor River is usually considered in two sections divided by the Taylor Park Reservoir. The upper section of the Taylor River is above the reservoir to the headwaters, and the lower section is below the dam to the confluence with the East River. The most popular and most scenic section is below the dam in the gorge. You can expect to find both rainbow trout and brown trout.
The main caddis hatch season on the Taylor is from May through September, while the golden stonefly hatch is from May through July.
There are numerous roadside river access points. One of the most popular access points is right below the Taylor Park Resevoir dam. This catch-and-release tailwater fishery can be very crowded at times, and is known to be very difficult to land fish.
