REGION: Gunnison National Forest TITLE: East River - Lower
NOTES: North of Gunnison and Almont, the lower section East River offers exciting flyfishing opportunities. You can expect to find both wild rainbow trout and brown trout. Plus, there is a salmon hatchery mid-river, so you can expect to find Kokanee Salmon species as well (no fishing near the hatchery from August 1 to October 31). The best hatches are in June and July.
To reach the access parking area from Gunnison, head north on SR135 to Almont. Continue north on SR135 for another 3 miles. There is a signed roadside parking area on the left westside of the road. The river is just alittle further west across the fence. Please respect the private property that you cross to get to the river.
Note: The printable fly fishing river map is provided courtesy of Fly Fishing Tec (888) 306-9580. They have a wide range of printed laminated river maps, too!
