REGION: White River National Forest TITLE: Eagle River
NOTES: West of Vail near Eagle, the Eagle River is a 70 mile river with most open to public fishing. This is a waders paradise with big, wild trout averaging over 15 inches. Expect to find plenty of brown trout and rainbow trout, and in the upper sections, there is even some cutthroat trout and brook trout. The caddis hatch season varies widely across the length of this long river since there is dramatic elevation change -- in the lower reaches, the hatch can start as early as mid-April and it runs in the upper reaches all the way through September. This is a fly fishermans delight all in one river.
There are numerous access points along the length of the Eagle River for fly fishing including Dowd Junction close to Minturn.
