TITLE: West Branch Farmington River
NOTES: The West Branch Farmington River is known as an excellent tailwater fishery. The river is provided cold water from both the Colebrook and West Branch Reservoirs. It is pretty much a year-round river for fly fishing. You can expect to find plenty of stocked brown trout, rainbow trout and brook trout. Some of the leftover wild brown and rainbow trout exceed 18 inches.
The Upper Section of this river extends from the Hogback Dam to the Still River confluence near Riverton. There are many flat pools and riffles. The Lower Section extends from the Still River confluence downstream to the confluence with the main Farmington River. This section is known for more turbulence resulting in bigger fish. This section can be accessed by both East River Road and West River Road that run parallel to the river.
Note: there is a trout management area starting about a mile above the SR318 crossing and continues downstream of the bridge for 3 more miles.
