NOTES: Near Durango, the Animas River offers a variety of whitewater conditions. The Animas River runs from Silverton southbound down through Durango towards the New Mexico border.
The most popular lower sections offer up Class I, II and III rapids from April to September.
The upper sections offer Class IV and V rapids from late May through early August. This can be done in either a one or two day trip.
Access is provided by US550 which runs parallel to the Animas River.
