Dog River Fly Fishing

The 4th most popular fly fishing river in Vermont.

Near Montpelier, the Dog River is a little-known secret among fly fishermen for its trout. The Dog River is a spring-fed stream known for its evening fly fishing. The Dog River eventually merges with the Winooski River near Montpelier. You can expect to find brown trout, rainbow trout and brook trout.

The best section is from Northfield to Montpelier.

Note: As of January 2011, it is illegal to use felt sole waders and wading shoes in Vermont. You must use non-felt soles for fly fishing in Vermont.

Overall, Dog River is the 4th most popular fly fishing river of all 10 fly fishing spots in Vermont.
