Jackson River Fly Fishing

The 9th most popular fly fishing river in Virginia.

North of Roanoake and Covington, the Jackson River is a well-known, all-year brown trout fly fishing stream. There are some rainbow trout to be found as well.

When fly fishing on the Jackson River, there is a short public fishing access in the tailwaters below Garthwright Dam (Lake Moomaw), which is about 10 miles north of Covington.

Note: this river may be closed to public access beyond the dam tailwater. If using the river via private property, it is strongly encouraged to get that permission in writing and carry it with you. They take trespassing very seriously around here.

Overall, Jackson River is the 9th most popular fly fishing river of all 12 fly fishing spots in Virginia.
