Near Questa, the Upper Rio Grande is considered the stretch above the confluence with the Red River. This stretch starts at the Colorado border and heads south to the Red River over about 20 miles. It is known for rainbow trout, cutbow and brown trout.

Note: When fly fishing in New Mexico, you must have a valid fishing license in your possession at all times. There is a combined daily bag limit of five for brown trout, brook trout, rainbow trout, lake trout, konanee salmon and cutthroat trout (a maximum of two).

Overall, Upper Rio Grande is the 9th most popular fly fishing river of all 13 fly fishing spots in New Mexico.
