Northeast of Dayton and north of Springfield, the Mad River is popular with fly fisherman for trout.

There are five primary public fly fishing access areas on the Mad River: Hall-Fawcett Memorial Park (between C10 and T153), Lions Club Park (off SR245), Wildlife Property off Pimtown Road south of West Liberty from bridge southward to abandoned bridge, Wildlife Property south of SR29 bridge, SR36 bridge south to old railroad bridge.

Overall, Mad River is the 1st most popular fly fishing river of all 12 fly fishing spots in Ohio.
