Musconetcong River Fly Fishing

The 2nd most popular fly fishing river in New Jersey.

Near Hackettstown in northwestern New Jersey, the Musconetcong River is known for its brown trout and rainbow trout.

The upper section is near Saxton Falls. The river runs about 30 feet wide and has many riffles and pools to explore.

Most of the fly fishermen are from Saxton Falls heading downstream to Hackettstown.

Below Hackettstown, there is a noteable 1 mile long Seasonal Trout Conservation Area. It starts from the Penwell Bridge downstream to the Mountain Road Bridge. There are special regulations to follow when fishing in this area.

While the Musconetcong River can be fished all year long, the river gets pretty quiet after the first of May.

Overall, Musconetcong River is the 2nd most popular fly fishing river of all 10 fly fishing spots in New Jersey.
