The Blackfoot River is a classic fly fishing river with plenty of riffles, deep pools and beautiful scenery. Of course, there plenty of rainbow trout, brown trout and cutthroat trout to be found.
One of the more popular access points for fly fishing on the Blackfoot River is near Scotty Brown Bridge just downstream of Ovando. The fishing is good just above the bridge, and it become phenominal below the bridge. Floating to chase after rainbow trout is the way to go. The river is about 75 feet wide here with forested banks and clear water. The fishing is excellent from March through October with a range of hatches.
Overall, Blackfoot River is the 20th most popular fly fishing river of all 21 fly fishing spots in Montana.
