Near White Haven in Hickory Run State Forest, the Mud Run is well known for its wild brook trout and wild brown trout. The Mud River starts above SR115 and runs 7 miles downstream to the confluence with the Lehigh River passing Meckesville and Albrightsville. The fly fishing the Mud River is popular due to the large boulders and waterfalls creating many pools and riffles.

There is a 2.5 miles section of the Mud River that passes through Hickory Run State Park, but it is access by hiking only. This section has a deep raving that is best for trout fly fishing.

Overall, Mud Run is the 31st most popular fly fishing river of all 49 fly fishing spots in Pennsylvania. Several of the better fly fishing rivers are nearby Mud Run including Lehigh River and Pohopoco Creek.
