Winooski River Fly Fishing

The 6th most popular fly fishing river in Vermont.

Southeast of Burlington near Waterbury, the Winooski River is a premier trout stream. It starts up in the Green Mountains and flows northeast to the Lake Champlain confluence. When fly fishing on the Winooski River, you can expect to find brown trout, rainbow trout and brook trout.

The best sections on the Winooski River for fly fishing are the trophy water section in Waterbury, and at the confluences of the Dog River and the Mad River.

Note: As of January 2011, it is illegal to use felt sole waders and wading shoes in Vermont. You must use non-felt soles for fly fishing in Vermont.

Overall, Winooski River is the 6th most popular fly fishing river of all 10 fly fishing spots in Vermont.
