Encampment River Fly Fishing

The 6th most popular fly fishing river in Wyoming.

West of Cheyenne and south of Saratoga, the Encampment River is known for great fly fishing. The Encampment River is a classic western freestone stream that is a blue-ribbon fishery. Access is provided by the parallel Encampment River Trail, which starts at Encampment River Campground.

To reach the Encampment River Campground trailhead from the town of Encampment, head west on SR70 for 1 mile. Turn left heading south on CR353 for 1.5 miles (staying to the left at the 1 mile point). The campground is well marked on the left and the trailhead is just on the south side of the campground.

Note: The Encampment River from the Colorado stateline north to SR230 is a Special Regulation Area. The creel limit on trout is 3 per day or in possession. Also, no more than 1 trout shall exceed 16 inches.

Overall, Encampment River is the 6th most popular fly fishing river of all 28 fly fishing spots in Wyoming.
