North of Gunnison and northeast of Crested Butte, the upper section East River offers exciting flyfishing opportunities. You can expect to find both wild rainbow trout and brown trout. The best hatches are in late June through August.

To reach the access parking area from Crested Butte, head north on SR135 for 9 miles passing through Mt Crested Butte and the old Gothic townsite. There is a parking area for Judd Falls and also plenty of roadside parking continuing north.

Overall, East River - Upper is the 39th most popular fly fishing river of all 47 fly fishing spots in Colorado.
