Arkansas River - Granite Fly Fishing

North of Salida and Buena Vista, the section of the Arkansas River near Granite is a popular headwaters fly fishing area. The Arkansas River is one of the longer rivers in the state of Colorado. The headwaters are just north of Leadville and it flows south through Granite on the way through Buena Vista.
To access the Granite section of the Arkansas River for fly fishing, try the Clear Creek Reservoir tailwater parking area located just south of CR390 on the east side of US24.
There are many nices sections to wade, just make sure to be careful during winter runoff from May through early July. The caddis hatch is typically July and August, but midges can be found from March through October.
