Southeast of Knoxville, the Little River starts on the slopes of Clingmans Dome in Sevier County and flows 60 miles to Fort Loudon Lake.

The upper section of the Little River from the headwaters to Elkmont (7 miles) is popular for fly fishing brook trout. The middle sections are popular for fly fishing rainbow trout and brown trout. The Little River Trail provides good access to the river above Elkmont Campground. Most of the fly fishing for trout is all upstream of Townsend.

Overall, Little River is the 9th most popular fly fishing river of all 10 fly fishing spots in Tennessee.
