The Brule River starts up at Brule Lake near the Boundary Waters and flows 14 miles downstream to the Lake Superior confluence northeast of Grand Marais. The lower section below US2 is known for brown trout, steelhead and salmon. The middle section above US2 is known for wild rainbow trout and brown trout. As you move further upstream, the river narrows and becomes swampy where you can even use a canoe to chase the wild brookies.

Overall, Brule River is the 5th most popular fly fishing river of all 6 fly fishing spots in Minnesota.
