East of Belize City, the fly fishing off Turneffe Atoll is popular for bonefish, permit and tarpon. Yearround, the fly fishing for bonefish has been excellent off Turneffe Atoll due to the wadeable flats of turtle grass and crystal clear water. The best spots are off the east side of Turneffe.

The tarpon fly fishing is very popular off Turneffe. You can expect to find 70 to 90 pound tarpon, but there are some occasional tarpon over 150 pounds. The best season for tarpon off Turneffe is from May through August.
Across the board, you'll want to come with a quiver of rods ranging from 8 to 12 weight with at least 200 yards of line (20 weighted). There are many boat-accessed (skiff) sites along with plenty of wadeable fly fishing sites.
