Southwest of Lexington and south of Jamestown, the Cumberland River below Wolf Creek Dam is an excellent tailwater fishery. A great way to explore this stretch of river is by drift boating. The tailwater fishery extends about 70 miles from the dam to the Tennessee border. The high bluff banks are linked with dense hardwood forests. A mostly limestone riverbed creates a fertile ecosystem that produces prolific hatches of caddis, mayflies, and stoneflies.
